My Go- To Airport Outfit for a Long Flight: Light sweater or long sleeve t-shirt, comfy (not tight) black leggings, sneakers with socks, and a light layer like a jean jacket or scarf.
Hey y’all! Raymond and I are getting ready for our trip next week (eeekk), and I thought I would do a post on what I take on a long flight. I’ve taken a couple of long flights before and I actually love flying. I don’t know if there’s anyone out there like me that loves to fly, but I really do.
Think about it…8+ hours of unlimited movies, food and snacks, wine and maybe a snooze or two. I mean that sounds like what I wish I did at home more often! We’ve been blessed enough that we’ve never had to endure an awful flight before so I am sure if, God forbid, we had a rough flight I would feel quite differently about flying. Neither one of us gets anxiety over flying, but we do get major anxiety at airports. Gosh, I hate airports! They are so dirty, always packed and scary to me. I’m always paranoid that my flight will get delayed or cancelled or that I’m gonna miss my flight or something terrible will happen at the airport. Once we take off I feel so much safer! Isn’t that weird?
Anyway, here’s what I take on a long flight. If I didn’t have one of these items with me, my flight would not be very enjoyable. Trust me, you need every one of these if you have a long flight coming up!
One // Travel Tote – When travelling I prefer a tote over a backpack. I bought my travel tote at Target a while back and I love it. I’ve taken it on every flight since. I love this one and it’s very similar to mine. You need a tote that will carry everything you need for your flight.
Two // Cleansing Wipes – After you’ve been at the airport for 2+ hours you’ll want to wash your face. Especially if you want to sleep and feel comfortable, cleansing your face is a must. Once I settle in, I clean my face and feel so much better. Then right before we land, I use another wipe.
Three // Hair Ties – I’ve talked about these before and I love them. They don’t pull your hair or give you a headache. I use them to make a high bun so I can lay my head back comfortably. The best part is that they don’t leave a crease on your hair!
Four // Tea Bags – I like to have tea before we board or during the flight. Something soothing and caffeine free that makes me sleepy. My favorite is peppermint or sleepy time tea.
Five // Clear Pouches – I like these clear pouches where I keep my make up, chapstick, gum, hand lotion, toothbrush, deodorant, toiletries, medicine etc. I also use them for my phone and watch charger, earphones and any other cords I take. These are TSA approved!
Six // Eye Mask – These are a must because they turn on the lights several times for meals and snacks. We both like these because they’re a bit cushiony and super soft. They are breathable and have a curve on the eyes so they aren’t tight or feel claustrophobic.
Nine // Jacket of Scarf – I like wearing a light long sleeve sweater or tee when I fly. I also take my jean jacket or a scarf just in case I get cold. They normally provide thin blankets if you ask them so I don’t bother taking anything else.
Ten // Ear Plugs – I’ll never forget our flight from Hawaii to Dallas. It was 9 hours long and it was over night and we were beyond exhausted after the trip. This poor little girl a couple of rows in front of us had the worst cough and every time she coughed she cried! Needless to say, no one on that flight slept. We like these ear plugs because they mold to your ears so they don’t slip out. They don’t drown out all the noise but they are good enough.
Eleven // Sleep Aid Pills – I always sleep on flights coming back because of how tired I am after the trip, but on the way there it’s a different story. I’m way too excited and giddy to sleep on the way to our destination that I need extra help falling asleep. Normally, on the way there is when we need to sleep the most to be able to adjust to the time difference and not feel too jet lagged when we land. These do the trick, but make sure to read the dosage and make sure you have enough time to sleep because you don’t want to take these on a flight less than 8 hours or you will wake up groggy.
Other Things You Might Need
Electronics – We don’t have an iPad, but if you do, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take it. Although, on most long flights every seat has a tv but you might want to play games or read a book etc.
Leg Sling – I have not tried this but saw them and thought, wow so genius! It’s a sling for your feet! I might have to give these a try and report back.
Thanks for reading friends! I hope this was helpful. Is there anything you think I’m missing? Let me know in the comments!
