We built our house last summer and we could not love it more! It is our very first home so it has a special place in our hearts because we saw it being built from the ground up. We spent months walking it and visiting the site, praying over it and writing scriptures on the beams and foundation to symbolize that this home belonged to the Lord before it belonged to us. Little by little, we have added furniture and other touches that has made it feel more like a home than a house. I do feel that a homeowners work is never done because there’s always something that needs to be worked on even on a brand new house (like adding landscaping to our backyard) but the journey has been so fun. I hate to call this house our starter home because I feel that I could be content living here for a long time, but the reality is that it is our starter home because eventually when we have kids we will need a lot more space than what we have now which is more than enough for two people (and two furry children).
The kitchen is my favorite part of our home because it is the center of the house where you can see the dinning room and the living room. It’s an open concept floor plan that is great for entertaining which we love to do. We added these pendants lights (shop them here) and I love them, they are so pretty and we have gotten many compliments on them. I love the white shaker cabinets we went with and the white subway tile backsplash with grey grout. I wanted our kitchen to be completely white, simple and clean. The granite we chose has some grey sparkly speckles that add some contrast, but it’s still mostly white. We decided to go with granite versus marble because it is less porous so it does not stain as easily. Plus a slab of marble on our island was really expensive…maybe we’ll add it to our next house;).
This house is more than what we ever dreamed our first home would be and we are so thankful for it and we can see ourselves being happy here for many years to come.
