There is nothing more that I love than spending a weekend at home binge watching a good show on Netflix. If you know me you know I am a huge movie lover. Raymond and I love the movies so much we go probably 2-3 times a month. We are also big fans of series and have watched a lot of shows over the years and we love it.
We love crime and police dramas, documentaries and historical shows. Occasionally we will get into comedy but I don’t like dumb comedy if that makes sense. I love shows that have complex characters and an interesting story line. The plot has to leave me wanting more or I totally lose interest and I’m out.
Today I’m sharing my favorite shows on Netflix in case you need a new binge-worthy show to watch. If you have seen any of these please let me know if you liked it as much as we did. Also, if you have any recommendations please leave me a comment!
*Some of these have strong language and sexual content. I can deal with language but I hate when shows have sex scenes and nudity. Every show out there has something right now and it really bothers me. I think sexual content is completely unnecessary to have a great story and plot. I simply fast forward or skip these parts. If it bothers me that bad, I stop watching the show period.
Favorite Shows on Netflix
The Crown – Raymond and I are both obsessed with British royal history! We have seen so many shows and documentaries on royal history and their stories and The Crown is by far our favorite. When we went to London last year we had just finished season 2. I cannot wait for season 3 seriously. It’s about Queen Elizabeth II’s early years and the drama behind her and Prince Phillip. 5 out of 5!
Feel Good Shows
Anne with an E – You guys this show is the sweetest thing we have ever seen! It’s based in the early 1900’s and I thought I would hate it because that is not my favorite era to watch but both Raymond and I absolutely fell in love with it. It’s about and orphan girl who is so witty and smart and wins the hearts of everyone around her with her charm. Bring a box of tissues to the couch when you watch this.
Grey’s Anatomy – My love for Grey’s is real. We are on season 11 and season 15 is the current season on tv. Raymond and I were Meredith Grey and Derik Shepherd for a costume party last year! Every single episode makes me cry and literally laugh out loud. I personally am super invested in these characters and the show itself because of the medical drama and the personal lives of the characters.
Manhunt Unabomber – We recently watched this show and started it and finished it on the same day. It’s about the man hunt of a serial bomber back in the late 90’s and how an FBI agent catches him through linguistics. It’s a must watch and totally leaves you at the edge of your seat after every episode.
You – I have mixed emotions about this show. I watched it and then had Raymond watch it with me. Beware, it has sexual content but you can fast forward and not miss anything important. It’s about a stalker who is also a killer. Sounds dark huh? Well, let me tell you…the show gets even darker because it makes you sympathize and actually like the psychopath character. Overall I was obsessed with the show and the end was a total shocker.
7 Days Out – This is a behind the scenes show on several different industries. It’s about what happens in the 7 days leading up to a big event. The episodes I loved were the one about the Channel Spring Fashion Show and the New York restaurant Eleven Madison Park that was voted best restaurant in North America and 4th in the world. So cool and interesting.
Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened – Ah man this one made me mad! You’ve probably heard a little bit about this story. A scheme artist plans to have a music festival on a private island in the Bahamas and hires top models like Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner to advertise the festival for him. The festival completely sold out and when people showed up to the island there was no running water, electricity or sleeping arrangements. It was a total fraud and major disaster. Long story short, a lot of models are being sued right now for what they advertised on Instagram.
Planet Earth/Blue Planet – We love animals so much and this show blows my mind every time we watch it! It’s about our planet and how animals live and what their life looks like. It also goes into detail on how their bodies work and what they do to survive. My mind is blown on how God created everything for a purpose and a reason. This is a great clean show and perfect for kids to learn about our world.
Salt Fat Heat Acid – I was so inspired by this show! Samin is a chef and the author of the book Salt Fat Acid Heat. She takes you around the world and shows you how these 4 elements are what makes any dish delicious. The show will make you want to travel the world and eat all the food. I can’t wait to travel this summer to one of these places and eat the food she mentioned.
Currently Watching – Rotating Between These Shows Right Now
Victoria (Amazon Prime) – This is the love story about Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Of course we are super into it because it’s British royal history and it’s also a love story. We are starting season 3.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon Prime) – When I first started watching this show I did not like it all. I thought it was funny but the first couple of episodes were kind of raunchy (nudity) so we stopped watching it. We recently picked it back up and we are past that stuff and now we absolutely love it! It’s hilarious! It’s about a Jewish wife who is cheated on by her husband and picks up stand up comedy. It’s based in New York in the 1950’s and the costumes and sets are beautiful. The humor is fantastic and our favorite character is Abe the dad.
Downton Abbey (Borrowed from friends) – Again with the British royal history guys! We love this show and cannot believe we had not watched it before. We love all the characters and love how the story is about the family and their estate and the servants. It’s a good one.
Good Girls (Netflix) – So we just started this one on a whim really and we kinda like it. It’s about 3 moms who are all going through a crisis in their life and decide to rob a grocery store for cash. They end up owing it back to the mafia but then end up working for them laundering money. It’s funny but not sure if we will actually finish the season.
These are our most recent favorite shows and we are always on the hunt for a new one! Let me know if you’re going to start any of these and what your favorite shows are so we can give them a shot!
